“This is a paean of praise for the many benefits and pleasures afforded me and my family by Steez Construction and its genial leader, Sam Wilson. My wife and I met Sam in mid-2021 when we were struggling to find out how exactly to complete the plans for our house extension and to get builders capable of working with the plans we had and of making the results agreeable to the conditions for consent required by the Kaipara District Council. Sam’s confident approach to all these problems was entirely justified by the sequel, a complex but beautiful house extension that got its CCC on the first day of May. I want to praise Steez and the men and women who worked on our house for their skills, applied not only to the skeletons of the design and its wooden interstices but to various adjustments demanded by the evolution of the build and the sudden appearance of our house contents from the USA. Most memorable for me was the appearance of a 20’ by 8’ set of bookshelves on which the tons of books that had arrived are now displayed. None of this would have been possible without a great deal of patience and good temper on the part of the team which ensured harmonious relations on the site and exquisite finishing inside the structure. This grew into a general cordiality resulting in an end-of-build party, celebrating with our families the triumphant conclusion of enterprise that began in uncertainty. I want to mention in particular Dylan (ingenious, patient and humorous), Rocky (exact and tireless), and Steve (a perfectionist)—and of course Sam, never at a loss and always ready with a joke”.

“Our experience with Sam Wilson’s Steez Construction was fantastic. Our new build was challenging, as it was a large, architecturally-designed extension without complete drawings. There were some very tricky issues with roofing and the join between our old cabin and the new wing. Sam and his lead builder resolved these beautifully in design terms and securely in terms of weather resilience.
The team were extremely skillful, perfectionist about everything from the foundations up - the joinery, the flooring, the paintwork, the electrics – it’s all been done to the highest standard. Our friends love the look of the house but the building inspector was probably the most impressed – he was absolutely full of admiration on his check through. The house doesn’t just look great, it’s solid as a rock, which is really reassuring given the climate challenges we all face. Storm Gabriel gave the building a stress test and it passed with flying colours: absolutely no leaks.
We were living on-site during construction and Sam’s team were really considerate. They are lovely folk. But we also saw first-hand how hard they work and how careful they are. Sam was also really stringent about costs, so we feel our money was well spent. We feel incredibly happy with our place, not just because we have a wonderful home but because we’ve invested in something that will outlive us and give a lot of pleasure to other people in the future. We don’t think it could have been done without Sam and Steez, with their skill, creativity and determination”.
